Opposition risks 'leadership failure' without unity - Makebi
Lawyer Makebi Zulu has warned Zambia's opposition parties that their continued division amounts to a failure of leadership, as he issued fresh calls for unity.
The USAKA lawyer, speaking on a podcast on Friday, appealed to opposition figures including Dr Sangwa, KBF, Mundubile, acting PF president Given Lubinda, and former ministers Chishimba Kambwili and Kasonde Mwenda to set aside their differences.
"Can't we do one thing for Zambia? Can't we come together and unite for Zambia?" Mr Zulu asked. "There will be a failure of leadership on the part of the opposition if we do not come together."
He invoked the late former president Edgar Lungu's attempts at opposition unity, saying: "It is only us as Zambians who can save our country."
Addressing growing speculation about his own political ambitions, Mr Zulu said calls for him to contest the 2026 elections were "seemingly irresistible" but required prayer and consultation.
"The voice of the people is the voice of God," he said, promising an announcement "at the right time".
