Western Province Rolls Out Anthrax Vaccination Programme

Western Province has received 59,000 anthrax vaccines in an effort to curb the spread of anthrax disease in Nalolo District.

Stephen Tembo, the Livestock Officer for Western Province, confirmed the development, stating that veterinary officers in Nalolo district are already on the ground carrying out the vaccination exercise. Over 7000 herds of cattle have been vaccinated so far.

These advancements were revealed during a courtesy call on Nalolo District Commissioner, Namatama Mupo, by a team from Breakthrough Action Zambia (BAZ).

BAZ, in partnership with the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), is promoting a comprehensive response to public health threats originating from animal-human shared environments to reduce the risks.

Felix Mpundu, Director of BAZ, said that the organisation has formed technical working groups in Luampa, Mongu, Senanga, and Nalolo in Western Province. These groups are making significant progress in continuing sensitisation efforts towards the control of zoonotic diseases including rabies and anthrax.
