June 5th Set As Date For Hearing Case Against Impeachment Motion

Earlier this year two Lusaka residents sued the state over a decision by the Speaker of the National Assembly to table a motion of impeachment against President Lungu. However, Garry Nkombo and Chishimba Kambwili made an application to throw out the proceedings. The two are awaiting an application to join the impeachment case.

On May 24th a High Court Judge refused to let the duo join the impeachment motion, on the basis that they do not have sufficient interest to warrant being part of it.

In an affidavit in support of summons to stay proceedings pending appeal the Mr Nkombo and Mr. Kambwili contended that their appeal has high prospects of succeeding.

The law makers say the issues raised in the impeachment case are of a national character and need to be dealt with bearing in mind the larger interest of the nation.

They further stated that the applicants will not suffer prejudice if the court stays the proceedings pending determination of the appeal.
