Students Funded by Recovered Musonda Millions Rally Behind Hichilema

Around 10,000 students who benefited from education funding drawn from money forfeited to the State by former journalist Faith Musonda have endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema ahead of the 13 August general election.

The support came from K65.3 million surrendered under the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act, which President Hichilema redirected towards higher education between 2021 and 2022. Rather than allowing the recovered funds to disappear back into general spending, the Government channelled them directly into tertiary education, opening the door to university and college for thousands of young Zambians who might otherwise have missed out.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, economics graduate Chabu Chabu thanked the Government for putting the money to work where it mattered most. He said the initiative had transformed lives, giving a generation of students the chance to complete their studies and build careers.

"The recovery of K65.3 million from Faith Musonda marked an important step in ensuring that resources meant for the Zambian people were put to good use," Mr Chabu said.

He added that the graduates firmly believed President Hichilema had made education a genuine priority and deserved a second term to continue the work. For many of the beneficiaries, the funding was proof of a wider promise: that money recovered from wrongdoing would be returned to citizens in the form of real opportunity.

The students pledged to rally behind the President at the polls on 13 August.
