IBA Approves Licence Renewals for 16 Stations

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has approved the renewal of broadcasting licences for 16 stations across the country.

IBA Director General Webster Malido says the renewals were approved by the Authority’s Board during its 46th Ordinary Meeting.

Mr Malido says the licences have been renewed for a period of five years, subject to payment of the prescribed fees and continued compliance with broadcasting regulations.

Among the broadcasters granted renewals are Shekainah Community Radio in Chingola, Breeze FM in Chipata, 945 Metro Sports Radio in Lusaka, Tuta FM in Mansa and Lumen Television in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, the IBA Board has approved three applications for changes in broadcasting licence categories.

Chisamba FM, Blessings Miracle Television and Miracle FM Radio have been authorised to transition from community or religious community broadcasting to commercial broadcasting.

The Board has also approved name changes for two stations.

Chisamba FM will now operate as Mwomboshi FM, while Blessings Miracle Television will be rebranded as Beacon Media Television.

Mr Malido announced the decisions in a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
