UNZA Students Thank President Hichilema for Campus Improvements

Students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) have paid tribute to President Hakainde Hichilema for tackling the sanitation crisis on campus and reinstating meal allowances.

The students voiced their gratitude when they met the President at State House in Lusaka yesterday. UNZA Students' Union (UNZASU) President Mwanto Kabaso said the measures introduced by Government had made a real difference to student welfare, and commended the Head of State for the progress achieved in improving conditions at the institution.

UNZASU Vice President Jemimah Mwaba also thanked the President for addressing the sanitation problems, which she said had taken a toll on students' health, particularly that of female students. She added that students deeply appreciated the Government's willingness to respond to their concerns.

Ms Mwaba went on to praise wider Government programmes, including the Social Cash Transfer and the Free Education Policy, which she said had eased the burden on families across the country. During the meeting, the students also appealed to the President to raise the accommodation allowance from K3,900 to K5,850.

Speaking at the same event, Zambia National Service Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi stressed the importance of maintaining proper sanitation at the University. He revealed that the recent works were the most extensive ever carried out at UNZA since the institution was founded in 1966, underscoring Government's commitment to restoring dignity and decent living conditions for the country's students.
