Power Investments Push Zambia Towards Energy Surplus
The Government have announced that Zambia is making steady progress towards becoming a power-surplus nation, driven by increased investment in electricity generation and ongoing reforms in the energy sector.
Addressing a media briefing, Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity Arnold Simwaba said several power projects implemented over the last four years and eleven months are now being commissioned, significantly boosting the country's generation capacity.
Mr Simwaba said the additional output is improving electricity security while advancing Government's strategy to diversify energy sources through expanded hydropower and solar power generation.
He added that policy reforms have created a more attractive investment climate, encouraging greater private sector participation and unlocking substantial investment in the electricity sector.
Mr Simwaba cited the commissioning of the 750-megawatt Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station as a major milestone, alongside growing investment in solar energy, saying the projects are laying the foundation for Zambia's transition from an electricity deficit to a sustainable power surplus.
