Trade Kings Brings Solar-Powered Water to Five Eastern Province Villages

Trade Kings is set to construct the Shanganani Solar-Powered Water Supply Scheme in Eastern Province. It is said to transform the lives of about 900 residents across five villages: Rogasi, Mwelwa, Chinkwangwa, Nyamukuba and Mazengela.

In a statement on Tuesday, Trade Kings Group Manager Public Relations Bridget Kambobe said the project will have multiple boreholes equipped with hand pumps to maximise ground-water yields.

Bridget Kambobe revealed that during peak dry seasons and droughts, residents frequently had long wait times and women and children had to travel long distances to get water. She said this often also led to drinking from unsafe water sources shared with livestock, risking exposure to debilitating waterborne diseases.

She reported that the new solar-powered water system will directly address these critical vulnerabilities, granting residents sustainable, clean and safe water. The development, she said, will feature multi-source extraction through multiple optimised boreholes equipped with high-capacity hand pumps to maximize ground-water yields. Widespread community access is guaranteed by a dense network of public water collection tap stands strategically distributed in high-traffic zones throughout beneficiary villages to minimise wait times.

Kambobe said the Trade Kings Foundation donated football jersey goal posts to Shanganani Football Club to enhance local sporting activities. She said it is about “restoring dignity, improving health, and empowering the future generation.” She said it gives the children time to focus on education, safeguards family health and directly supports local livelihoods.
