Government Empowers Community Health Volunteers in Kitwe with K500,000 Seed Grant

The New Dawn government has delivered another boost to grassroots healthcare, empowering 16 community-based volunteers and health cooperatives in Kitwe with a seed grant of over K500,000 to sustain their livelihoods and strengthen service delivery.

The support, provided in partnership with AMREF Health Africa, recognises the vital contribution these volunteers make to Zambia's health system at the community level.

Kitwe District Commissioner Oncemore Ngonomo praised the volunteers, noting that community-based health workers play a critical role in service delivery across health facilities.

District Health Director Dr Francis Liwayli echoed the sentiment, saying government has recognised the dedication of community-based volunteers in ensuring health programmes reach communities that need them most. He made the remarks at an award ceremony held to appreciate the volunteers' commitment to promoting health service delivery.

AMREF Health Africa described community-based volunteers as the backbone of primary healthcare, underlining their importance in extending services to the grassroots.

The initiative reflects the government's continued commitment to building a healthier Zambia from the ground up, investing in the people who keep frontline health services running in their own communities.
