Cultural Heritage Takes Centre Stage at Southern Province Festival
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the country’s cultural heritage, describing it as integral to national unity and economic development.
Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Yolanta Malunga made the pledge while officiating at the Fourth Provincial Cultural Arts Festival, held under the theme "Celebrating Cuundu Heritage through Traditional Cuisine, Dances and Artifacts."
Ms Malunga said cultural heritage plays a vital role in strengthening identity and socio-economic growth, and called for continued support for initiatives that preserve and celebrate Zambia's diverse traditions.
The government says preserving such traditions is not just about looking back, but about building the social cohesion and shared identity that underpins national progress. Officials have increasingly pointed to cultural tourism and the creative arts as areas with real economic potential, particularly for local communities and young people.
