NAPSA, Unions Welcome New Pension and Education Laws

NAPSA Acting Director General Asa Msusa has described the newly enacted pension reform laws as a significant step towards delivering progressive pension reforms for the Zambian people.

Mr Msusa said the new laws would provide employees with enhanced benefits and respond to the changing needs of the workforce. He explained that the reforms would help Zambians prepare for retirement through flexible and user-friendly products, while addressing long-standing disparities among public service workers and mobilising capital for high-impact development projects.

He made the remarks as President Hakainde Hichilema assented to five Bills at State House in Lusaka.

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) also welcomed the reforms, saying they would promote dignity and decency for both employees and retirees. Deputy Secretary General Cathrine Kantumoya described the signing as a step in the right direction for the future of work in Zambia. She added that the Free Education Law would strengthen delivery and guarantee learning for all children.

Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) General Secretary Christopher Simukonda said the five laws marked a significant milestone in the country's development. He described them as transformative measures that would expand opportunities, strengthen social protection and enhance the dignity of citizens.

Together, the reforms have been widely welcomed across the labour and education sectors, reflecting broad support for changes that supporters say will improve the lives of workers, retirees and learners alike.
