K69.6 Million Boost for UTH Water Network Upgrade

The Government has released K69.6 million for towards rehabilitation and upgrading of the water reticulation system at the University Teaching Hospital.

Romas Kamanga, Water Development and Sanitation Permanent Secretary said that the project will be implemented by the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) over the course of a year.

He added that the project targets key areas within the hospital’s water infrastructure which required urgent intervention. Kamanga reiterated that “reliable water is fundamental to quality healthcare delivery” demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding public health.

The project also included construction of a dedicated water supply line from Libala Water Works to UTH to improve supply reliability and rehabilitation. It will also include the installation of alternative energy solutions on boreholes to guarantee uninterrupted water supply during power outages. Moreover, the project will replace ageing infrastructure improving operational efficiency and reducing water losses.

Kamanga said the integration of alternative energy solutions reflects the Government’s forward-looking approach to building resilience in the event of power disruption. The project will be implemented with urgency to ensure that healthcare workers and patients will benefit from these reforms as soon as possible.

He stated that the Government remains committed to strengthening water and sanitation infrastructure across the country as part of its inclusive development agenda and promise to improve the lives of Zambians.
