Government Signs Contract for Mutanda-Mwinilunga Road Rehabilitation
The Government has signed a contract with Arab Contractors for the rehabilitation of the Mutanda-Mwinilunga Road and township roads in Mwinilunga District, North-Western Province.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Richard Banda, said the project will cover approximately 75 kilometres of the Mutanda-Mwinilunga Road and a further 10 kilometres of township roads. The works will be undertaken by Arab Contractors in a joint venture with Palmetto Trading Limited and are expected to be completed within 24 months.
Speaking during the contract signing ceremony in Lusaka, Dr Banda said the project forms part of the Government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and connectivity in the province.
Road Development Agency Board Chairperson Eugene Haazele said the agency would work closely with the consultant and contractor to ensure the project is delivered to the required standards and completed on schedule.
Presidential Advisor for Finance and Investment Jito Kayumba described the signing of the contract as the fulfilment of President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to the people of North-Western Province.
Arab Contractors Chairperson Ahmed Mostafa El Assar reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project within the agreed timeframe and in accordance with the required quality standards.
The rehabilitation works are expected to improve transport links, enhance access to services and markets, and support economic activity in Mwinilunga District and the wider North-Western Province.
