Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway Reaches 78% Completion Ahead of Schedule

The Lusaka- Ndola Dual Carriageway has reached 78% completion, with authorities projecting substantial completion of the flagship infrastructure project this year, well ahead of its contractual deadline of 2027.

Road Development Agency (RDA) chief communications and corporate affairs manager Anthony Mulowa said the pace of construction since works commenced in May 2024 demonstrates Government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure and supporting economic growth.

Speaking to the media in Kabwe, Mr Mulowa said significant progress had been recorded on the main carriageway, with construction advancing ahead of schedule.

“I am happy to report that we continue to record good progress on this transformative project. We are currently at 78& completion on the main carriageway and, at the rate we are moving, we expect to substantially complete the project this year,” Mr Mulowa said.

He commended the concessionaire and project teams for maintaining momentum and ensuring that works remain on track.

Mr Mulowa noted that completed sections of the road are already reducing travel times for motorists and improving connectivity between Lusaka and the Copperbelt.

Meanwhile, Moic Consortium Limited assistant site engineer for Lot Two, Edwin Muya, said construction of the 25-kilometre Kabwe Bypass has reached an advanced stage.

Mr Muya said nine kilometres of the bypass have already been surfaced with asphalt, while most of the remaining earthworks have been completed.

“Out of the 25 kilometres, nine kilometres have already been tarred. We are remaining with about 14 kilometres, and most of the works have already been done. Only a few sections remain before asphalt paving begins,” he said.

Once completed, the project is expected to enhance road safety, reduce transport costs and facilitate the efficient movement of goods and passengers.
