LCC Begins Major Upgrade of Twin Palm Road
Motorists using Twin Palm Road can expect significant changes ahead, as the Lusaka City Council (LCC) has started rehabilitating and widening the 3.8-kilometre stretch. The work falls under the Lusaka 40 Kilometres Urban Roads Project.
Sharing the news on its official page, the council confirmed that the route will be rebuilt as a modern four-lane carriageway. Officials say the redesign aims to keep traffic moving more freely, raise safety standards, and respond to the pressures of a city whose transport demands continue to climb.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Public Relations Officer Chola Mwamba described the project as one piece of a broader programme to relieve pressure on busy routes and link the capital's residential, commercial, and industrial districts more effectively.
Once finished, Mwamba said, drivers should notice far lighter congestion, easier access across the area, and a smoother-running transport system overall.
The contractor has chosen to carry out the work in stages rather than closing the road entirely. Crews are concentrating on the outer lanes first, leaving the central portion open so vehicles can pass while building continues.
Mwamba also gave assurances that proper traffic controls have been introduced throughout the site, safeguarding both passing drivers and the workers on the ground until the upgrade is delivered.
