Gwembe Farmers Receive Vital Support
550 smallholder farmers in the district have received agricultural inputs and chemicals for the 2025/2026 growing season, as the Government moves decisively to help communities rebuild in the wake of the 2023/2024 drought.
Gwembe Senior Agricultural Officer Byde Hamududu confirmed that the support was delivered under the Central Emergency Relief Fund project, implemented by the World Food Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture. Farmers received fertiliser, maize seed, groundnut seed, millet seed, herbicides, and insecticides, and were provided with hands-on training by Ministry extension officers covering proper input use and planting techniques.
The intervention reflects the kind of coordinated, people-centred governance that President Hichilema has championed since taking office. By mobilising international partners such as the WFP while directing government resources towards the most vulnerable communities, his administration has demonstrated both the diplomatic reach and the domestic commitment needed to address crises of this scale.
