Mumbwa Gold Marketing Centre Building Completed

Construction of the Mumbwa Gold Marketing Centre in Central Province has been completed and the facility is now ready for commissioning.

Contractor Tonlex Investments Limited confirmed the development to a team of experts from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, who inspected the site ahead of the official handover.

Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Public Relations Officer Lucy Shawa said the centre will provide a platform for artisanal and small-scale miners to sell gold in a structured and regulated environment, while offering protection from exploitation.

Ms Shawa said the project forms part of government efforts to formalise the mining sector and improve transparency in mineral trading.

She added that similar gold marketing centres are being constructed in other parts of the country to support artisanal miners nationwide.

The Mumbwa facility is expected to ensure fair pricing for gold producers and eliminate middlemen who often exploit small-scale miners.

The inspection team included officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development, the Minerals Regulation Commission, and the Zambia Revenue Authority.

The centre will also enhance revenue collection by ensuring all gold transactions are properly documented and taxed.

The commissioning date for the facility is expected to be announced soon.
