Health Ministry Vaccinates Over 26,000 UNZA Students Against Cholera
The Ministry of Health has successfully vaccinated over 26,000 students against cholera at the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East Road campus.
Lusaka Province Health Director Simulyamana Choonga says this is out of a targeted 28,000 students during the vaccination exercise which started last week.
Dr Choonga told ZNBC News that the number vaccinated represents 95 percent coverage of the targeted population.
He said the exercise was conducted as a preventive measure to avert any cholera outbreak at the institution.
The vaccination campaign comes as part of government's broader efforts to strengthen disease prevention, particularly in high-density areas such as university campuses where students live in close proximity.
The high coverage rate achieved demonstrates strong uptake among the student population and effective coordination by health officials.
Dr Choonga commended students for their cooperation during the exercise and urged the remaining unvaccinated students to get their jabs to ensure maximum protection for the entire campus community.
