Government Recruits Over 3,000 Health Workers in Major Public Sector Drive
The Civil Service Commission has recruited 3,205 health workers, with 2,205 of those being new appointments and the remaining 1,000 filling positions vacated through natural attrition — including retirements, deaths and resignations. Ten per cent of the positions have been reserved for persons with disabilities.
Commission Chairperson Dr. Choolwe Beyani made the announcement at a press briefing in Lusaka today, confirming that successful candidates must collect their appointment letters in person at designated provincial centres. Applicants will be required to present their National Registration Cards to receive their letters.
The collection exercise runs from Monday, 20 April to Thursday, 30 April 2026. Dr. Beyani issued a firm warning to those recruited: any health worker who fails to report to their designated work station by the stipulated deadline, without having given prior notice, will be considered to have declined their offer of employment. The Commission will move to replace them without further process.
Beyond the recruitment drive, Dr. Beyani confirmed that the Commission has also processed 2,149 promotions and transfers during the same period — a significant volume of movement across the public health service.
He added that the recruitment of cholera volunteers remains ongoing, reflecting the government's continued response to public health pressures on the ground.
The appointments represent a substantial injection of personnel into Zambia's health sector, reinforcing the government's commitment to strengthening frontline service delivery across the country's provinces.
