President Hichilema Condemns Kalumbila Mob Killing, Promises Justice

President Hakainde Hichilema has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe, a woman murdered by a mob in Kalumbila District, North-Western Province, following accusations of witchcraft.

In a statement issued by Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the President expressed outrage at the extrajudicial attack, making clear that no allegation — however serious — can justify the taking of a life outside the law.

"Nothing entitles a mob to take a life," the statement read. "That is not how the Republic of Zambia works, and it is not who we are as a people."

The President was particularly troubled by reports that the perpetrators were predominantly young people, linking the incident to a broader concern about the erosion of family values and moral guidance. He has repeatedly called on parents and guardians to take an active role in shaping the character of the next generation.

President Hichilema has directed the Zambia Police Service and other security agencies to launch a full investigation, with a clear instruction that every individual involved must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The President was unequivocal: there will be no impunity.

He extended his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms Kamutumbe, affirming that her memory deserves justice — and that justice will be delivered.
