President Hichilema Joins Ngoni People for Sacred Nc'wala Ceremony in Chipata

President Hakainde Hichilema today officiated at this year's Nc'wala Traditional Ceremony at the Mtenguleni Main Arena in Chipata District, Eastern Province, in a celebration of the first fruits, thanksgiving, and the promise of a bountiful harvest.

The President's journey to Chipata saw him warmly received by the people of Malambo and Mfuwe, along with Members of Parliament from across Eastern Province. He also paid a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Mpezeni in Laweni ahead of the ceremony, where the Paramount Chief expressed his full backing, declaring that the Ngoni Kingdom would stand behind the President this year.

During his address, President Hichilema struck a unifying tone, telling the gathering that "culture unifies us" and emphasising the importance of preserving Zambia's diverse traditions. "Without our roots we are nothing," he said. "This government will continue investing in our heritage, in these ceremonies."

The President hailed his administration's education reforms, infrastructure investments, and growing tourism sector, noting that Zambia reached a landmark 2.5 million tourists in 2025, a milestone he said translates directly into revenues and jobs, with ceremonies like Nc'wala playing an important role. He also stressed the value of regional solidarity.

Beyond the arena, the ceremony drove vibrant business activity across Chipata, with traders reporting heightened demand for traditional attire and customised regalia.

The Nc'wala Ceremony continues to stand as a powerful symbol of Ngoni heritage, national unity, and the cultural richness that defines Zambia.
