Chama Chiefs Praise Government Development
Traditional leaders in Chama District have praised President Hakainde Hichilema's development initiatives, particularly the free education policy, while appealing for urgent road improvements.
Senior Chief Kambombo commended the President for bringing free education to the district, saying it has enabled disadvantaged parents to send their children to school.
"The President is sharing equally. He has brought free education. Some disadvantaged parents are now able to send their children to school, but they used to pay. I'm very thankful to the President," Senior Chief Kambombo said.
The remarks came during a visit by political leaders to the eastern province district to check on developmental works and engage with traditional authorities.
Chief Lundu made an earnest appeal for road infrastructure improvements, specifically calling for work on the Chama-Lundazi and Lundazi-Chipata roads.
"It is our humble request as traditional leaders that you work on the Chama-Lundazi, even Lundazi-Chipata road, so that we can bring development to Chama," Chief Lundu said.
He called on traditional leaders to work with the government of the day to ensure development reaches their communities.
The delegation also conferred with Chief Chiwale and Chief Molo, who spoke through a representative.
Members of Parliament and political party representatives present assured the chiefs that their concerns would be given urgent attention.
One speaker noted that many people in the area previously belonged to opposition parties but have now rallied behind the President because of the development being delivered.
"Through these engagements which this President has brought together, we have said we need to work with this man. I decided to endorse President Hichilema not out of my own personal interest, but looking at what he has introduced. Things are there to show for themselves," the speaker said.
