Zambia-Mozambique Fibre Cable Opens Gateway to Digital Growth

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati says the completion of the Zambia-Mozambique strategic fibre interconnection project is critical to the country's digital transformation journey.

Mr Mutati explained that government has removed all duty on the importation of digital infrastructure to promote tangible growth in the sector.

He was speaking during the commissioning of the fibre interconnection project at Chanida border post in Chadiza District.

The project was implemented by Bayobab Zambia and Vodacom Business of Mozambique.

Bayobab Zambia Managing Director Lillian Mutwalo said the interconnection provides Zambia with direct access to two of Africa's submarine cables along Mozambique's coast.

She added that the project will address network redundancy and improve performance for operators in both countries.

Mozambique's Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Professor Américo Muchanga, described the project as a landmark achievement in digital transformation, noting that it will greatly benefit both nations.

Vodacom Business Mozambique Chief Executive Officer Simon Karikari said the project defines his country's digital transformation.

Chief Mlolo of Chadiza District commended the two countries for working together to enhance digital transformation in the region.
