Ngoni People Hold First King Zwangendaba Remembrance in Nakonde

The Ngoni people have marked a historic milestone with the inaugural King Zwangendaba Remembrance held in Nakonde, an event that drew traditional leaders from across the region and carried strong calls for continued peace and unity in Zambia.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni graced the occasion, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to working with the government of the day. In a speech read on his behalf by Nc'wala Traditional Ceremony National Organizing Committee Chairperson Dumisani Tembo, the Paramount Chief commended the government for its support of the remembrance and extended his gratitude to Chieftainess Waitwika for her dedication to preserving King Zwangendaba's burial site.

Chieftainess Waitwika expressed her commitment to maintaining the site as a key tourist attraction, emphasising its importance in honouring the legacy of one of the Ngoni people's most revered ancestors. Muchinga Province Minister Njavwa Simutowe echoed these sentiments, praising the Chieftainess for her stewardship of the burial site and highlighting its strategic location as a significant asset for promoting cultural tourism in the region.

The event also attracted international attention, with King Mpemphekiseni Gumbi of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa expressing his gratitude to Paramount Chief Mpezeni for creating opportunities to trace shared ancestral roots through such gatherings.

The remembrance represents a powerful step in celebrating Ngoni heritage and strengthening cultural ties that transcend national borders.
