DEC Clarifies Routine Investigation Involving Archbishop Banda

The Drug Enforcement Commission has moved to clarify recent developments regarding Archbishop Alick Banda, emphasising the routine nature of ongoing investigations and dismissing politically motivated speculation.

DEC Director General Nason Banda confirmed during a press briefing in Lusaka that the Archbishop has been summoned to assist with inquiries relating to a vehicle previously transferred to him by the Zambia Revenue Authority several years ago. The Director General stressed this is a standard investigative procedure concerning asset documentation and administrative compliance.

Addressing misinformation circulating on social media, Mr. Banda categorically rejected claims that the summons carries political undertones, describing such allegations as deliberately misleading and potentially damaging to public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

"The Commission operates strictly within its legal mandate," Mr. Banda explained. "We are empowered by law to summon any individual when their assistance is required in investigations, regardless of their position in society. This demonstrates that the rule of law applies equally to all Zambians."
