Kansanshi Foundation Invests in Climate-Smart Farming Initiative

Kansanshi Mining PLC has demonstrated its commitment to agricultural development by providing farming equipment valued at K480,000 to 30 lead farmers across three districts in North Western Province.

The beneficiaries, drawn from Solwezi, Mushindamo, and Kalumbila districts, received bicycles and agricultural tools through the Kansanshi Foundation following comprehensive training in conservation farming techniques designed to boost crop yields and ensure sustainable production.

This strategic intervention, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen food security and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices in the mining region.

At the handover ceremony, Senior Irrigation Engineer Jackson Bwalya, representing Provincial Agricultural Coordinator Muyobo Shimabale, commended the Foundation's initiative. He noted that such private sector interventions significantly complement government programs aimed at transforming smallholder farming.

Kansanshi Foundation Manager Simon Keevil emphasized the organization's dedication to working alongside the Ministry of Agriculture in equipping farmers with modern, climate-resilient agricultural technologies. He highlighted conservation agriculture as a critical approach to addressing climate change impacts on farming communities.

The lead farmers are expected to serve as champions in their respective communities, demonstrating best practices and mentoring fellow farmers in adopting climate-smart techniques that improve productivity while protecting natural resources.
