4.6 Million Learners Have Benefited from the School Feeding Programme

According to Kunda Mando, the Ministry of Education’s Assistant Director and Head of Communications, learners nationwide have enhanced their performance through the programme.

The programme, which aims to reduce absenteeism and boost learning outcomes, is being implemented in 106 districts and benefits more than 8,190 primary schools nationwide. Due to the availability of meals, many learners are now more motivated to attend school regularly.

“This programme has helped to reduce absenteeism because pupils now know they will have food at school,” the Ministry of Education’s communications chief said during a media training workshop, organised by the Zambia Education Programme Coordinating Unit (ZEPCU) in Kitwe.

Speaking during a tour of some schools whose students have benefited from the feeding programme, Ms Mando explained that the government will continue to provide initiatives to mitigate school hunger levels.
Mando praised the programme’s impact and noted its positive effects on encouraging greater parental involvement in their children’s education.
