President Hichilema Pays Tribute to Kenneth Kaunda
Today, our country gathers to honour the life and legacy of our founding father, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda.
In August 2021, Kenneth Kaunda Day was enshrined as a public holiday. Today, it serves as a reminder of Kaunda’s vision for Zambia: a united, peaceful, and prosperous country where every citizen has the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s development.
His philosophy of “One Zambia, One Nation” set the tone for the country's future, and his commitment to peace and stability, both at home and abroad, cemented his legacy as one of Africa’s great leaders.
President Hichilema paid a heartfelt tribute to Kenneth Kaunda earlier today. The President called for renewed dedication to the values that anchored Dr Kaunda’s life and leadership. He urged Zambians to renew their vows to peace, reconciliation, and the hard work and sacrifice that freedom demands.
“May we love our neighbour, as [KK] loved all of humanity. May we cherish our national identity, as he so carefully preserved it. And may we, in our own time, be worthy heirs to the noble legacy he bequeathed us,” continued the President on Facebook.
This year’s commemoration of Kaunda’s inspiring life and leadership is particularly poignant; the statesman would have celebrated his 101st birthday today.
Happy Kenneth Kaunda Day, from the team at Open Zambia.
