Government Advances Plans to Strengthen Zambia Airways and Modernise Aviation Sector

The Government has reinforced its commitment to transforming Zambia Airways into a robust national carrier capable of driving economic development, with plans to expand the fleet and strengthen governance structures.

Speaking at the International Civil Aviation Day Commemorations in Lusaka, Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali outlined the administration's vision for the airline's growth. He highlighted the urgent need to introduce a dedicated cargo aircraft and expand the passenger fleet to meet rising demand, underscoring the government's determination to position Zambia Airways as a competitive player in regional and international aviation.

Minister Tayali also announced the Government's commitment to equipping the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) with cutting-edge digital tools and systems, ensuring the regulatory body meets 21st-century standards and maintains Zambia's strong reputation in aviation safety and compliance.

The CAA is already taking proactive steps to enhance the sector. Director General Captain Derrick Luembe revealed that the Authority is strengthening surveillance capabilities across the aviation industry while launching public education initiatives on responsible drone usage, reflecting a forward-looking approach to emerging technologies.
