Absa Donates K200,000 to Girls' Education Initiative

Absa Bank Zambia has donated K200,000 to World Vision Zambia in support of the "Strong Girls, Strong Zambia" initiative, a three-year campaign aimed at improving girls' education and menstrual health in seven rural provinces.

The programme will provide reusable sanitary pads and menstrual health education to over 5,000 girls, addressing school absenteeism caused by lack of access to menstrual products.

World Vision Zambia National Director Mark Nosbach praised the partnership, describing it as a movement to restore dignity for girls in rural schools.

He noted that girls in rural areas lose nearly three months of school time annually due to lack of sanitary pads, highlighting the urgency of the initiative.

Absa Bank CEO Mizinga Melu emphasized the importance of supporting girls' education, stating that every girl child matters and deserves the opportunity to attend classes without barriers.

Absa Bank Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Mato Shimabale revealed that this year's Absa Marathon successfully raised the K200,000 donation in a short period.

She expressed optimism that the annual event will continue to grow as a platform for raising awareness and resources to combat menstrual poverty affecting girls across the country.

The "Strong Girls, Strong Zambia" initiative represents a significant step toward ensuring that rural girls can access education without interruption due to menstrual health challenges.
