300 Senior Citizens Receive Christmas Hampers in Livingstone

On the 21st December, more than 300 senior citizens across Livingstone's 20 wards are receiving food hampers as an early Christmas gift.

The initiative, which began in 2006, was started by current Mayor Muleabai alongside family and friends—years before she entered politics. It was built on the principle that caring for the elderly with dignity and compassion must remain at the heart of community life.

This year's distribution kicked off in Mwandi Village and Nakatindi Township, focusing on the most vulnerable pensioners.

Mayor Muleabai said the hampers represent more than just food.

"Small acts of kindness can bring back hope, warmth, and joy - especially at Christmas," she said.

The programme, now in its 18th year, continues to demonstrate community solidarity and respect for those who have contributed to society throughout their lives.
