ZNBC Warns Public About Fake Facebook Pages Ahead of 2026 Elections

ZNBC has issued a public warning following the discovery of 13 fraudulent Facebook pages impersonating the national broadcaster.

ZNBC Director General Berry Lwando expressed serious concern over the fake accounts, describing them as a direct threat to the institution's credibility - particularly as Zambia prepares for the 2026 general elections. The timing of these impersonation attempts raises questions about potential interference with electoral information dissemination.

During a courtesy call on Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) Director General Collins Mbulo in Lusaka, Mr. Lwando formally requested assistance in removing the fraudulent pages from the social media platform.

"These fake pages risk tarnishing ZNBC's reputation and spreading misinformation to the public," Mr. Lwando warned, urging citizens to exercise caution when engaging with content claiming to represent the broadcaster.

In response, Mr. Mbulo assured ZNBC that ZICTA is actively working to have the imposter accounts taken down. He further advised the corporation to apply for Facebook's blue verification badge, which would help the public easily identify ZNBC's authentic online presence.

The development highlights growing concerns about digital impersonation and misinformation in Zambia's online space, particularly as the nation enters the pre-election period. ZNBC has encouraged the public to verify information sources and report suspicious accounts claiming to represent the broadcaster.
