Ex-Convict Arrested in Luanshya for Series of Robberies, Rapes, and Assaults
Police in Luanshya have arrested a 29-year-old ex-convict, Charles Kunda, in connection with a string of aggravated robberies, rapes, and assaults committed over the past two months.
Kunda, who is believed to have attacked more than ten women, was apprehended on 30 October 2025 at around 03:00 hours.
According to Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, Kunda’s latest attack targeted a couple walking near Mikonfwa Stadium in Luanshya.
“The suspect attacked the complainant, beat him using fists and slaps, and threatened to kill him and his girlfriend if they did not comply,” Siandenge said, “He [Kunda] later tied the victim’s hands with a shoelace, locked him in the ablution block, and went away with the girlfriend, who was later found to have been raped and sustained a swollen neck and a cut in the mouth.”
During the robbery, Kunda reportedly stole K200 in cash and an Itel phone valued at K300 from the victims.
Following his arrest, Kunda confessed to involvement in 11 similar incidents of rape, assault, and robbery committed in Luanshya between 24 August and 25 October 2025. Police say he was positively identified by several victims, and clothes allegedly worn during the offences were recovered from his home.
“The suspect is currently detained at Luanshya Central Police Station and will appear in court soon. More details will be released in due course,” Mr Siandenge said.
