Flash Flood Warning Issued for Lusaka, Central, Southern Provinces
The Zambia Meteorological Department has issued a flash flood warning for several parts of the country, with heavy rainfall expected to persist over the next 24 hours.
The alert, issued at 14:00 hours on November 17, 2025, warns of flash floods and waterlogging in areas shaded red and yellow on the department's flood risk map.

According to the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, regions at high risk include Kafue, Chikankata, and Chirundu and surrounding areas in the Southern Province. Medium-risk zones encompass Namwala, Gwembe, Pemba, Monze, Mazabuka, Chikankata, Chilangu, and surrounding areas.
Districts classified as low risk include Namwala, Chitembo, Luyulimanda, Choma, Shikayunji, Mumbwa, Itezhi-Tezhi, Mbala, Mpika, Mporokoso, Luwingu, Serenje, Luano, and their surrounding areas.
The forecast indicates that rainfall activities observed in recent days are expected to continue over the coming hours in the listed districts. Meteorologists warn that areas at high risk of flash flooding and waterlogging face threats due to the combination of intense precipitation and already saturated soils.
The Meteorological Department has issued several advisories to the public:
Avoid flooded areas, streams, and rivers
Avoid driving in flooded areas and during heavy rainfall
Keep surroundings free from litter
Residents in affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The warning remains valid for 24 hours from the time of issue.
