Drought Hit Southern Province Receives Relief Food
The Southern Province which has been hit by severe droughts has finally received relief food from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.
Many had been complaining that the lack of urgency with which the government responded was a clear sign of their bias towards the North East.
However, the DMMU National Coordinator has reassured the media that when he met with two local chiefs, they were happy with the government response.
“The two chiefs that we met, Chief Monze among them, said they appreciate His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s effort to take food to our people, and this government has delivered according to its promise of not leaving anyone behind. In fact, there is a request that we increase the tonnage of the relief food that we are giving. The PF government wants to feed and protect the lives of all Zambians,” Kabwe said.
The country is currently experiencing a range of weather extremes, whilst droughts persist in the south, the North East has seen record rain fall.
