Kasomeno-Mwenda Road Project Reaches 50% Completion

Construction of the 182 kilometre Kasomeno-Mwenda Road in Mwense District, Luapula Province, has reached the halfway stage, marking a significant milestone for one of Zambia's key regional infrastructure projects.

The development includes the construction of a 362-metre bridge spanning the Luapula River, as well as a One-Stop Border Post designed to streamline the movement of people and goods between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Road Development Agency (RDA) Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Anthony Mulowa said works are progressing as planned and remain on course for completion next year.

Mr Mulowa, who was speaking during a tour of the project, said the road is expected to strengthen transport links, facilitate cross-border trade and stimulate economic growth on both sides of the border.

Once completed, the project is expected to improve regional connectivity and reinforce trade between Zambia and the DRC, one of the country's most important trading partners.
