HH Draws Line Against Political Violence

President Hakainde Hichilema has condemned reports of political violence in parts of the country, warning that acts of intimidation, disruption and lawlessness by any political party, candidate or supporter will not be tolerated.

The President has called on all political actors to respect the right of every party to campaign freely within the period set by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

"Let it be clear that violence, intimidation, or lawlessness by any political party, candidate, or supporter will not be tolerated," President Hichilema said.

"Every political party has the lawful right to campaign within the period allocated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. Anyone who attempts to disrupt or prevent that process is breaking the law and must face the full consequences."

The President’s remarks follow a number of reported incidents of political violence in some parts of the country, including disruptions reported during National Restoration Party (NRP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile’s campaign activities in Western Province on Tuesday.

President Hichilema said the democratic process could only be protected if all political players respected the law and allowed citizens to exercise their rights freely.
