Resolute Party Backs Hichilema

The Resolute Party (RP) has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema's candidature in the 13 August general election, while announcing its departure from the opposition Tonse Alliance.

Speaking at a community engagement addressed by the President in Katete, RP President Martin Phiri said the party had resolved to leave the alliance, citing what he described as disorganisation within the grouping. He called on all RP members to rally behind President Hichilema at the polls.

The move is notable given the party's ties to the opposition: the Resolute Party is the sponsor of Makebi Zulu, the running mate for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity. Its decision to break away and throw its support behind the President marks a significant shift in Eastern Province's political landscape ahead of the vote.

Dr Phiri's endorsement adds to the growing momentum behind the UPND in the region as campaigning enters its final stretch, with the party positioning itself to consolidate support across Katete and the wider province.
