Senior Citizens Celebrate President Hichilema’s Victory

The Consortium for the Rights and Welfare of Older Persons (CROP) has congratulated President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema on his victory in the 13 August election, describing the outcome as a clear demonstration of the Zambian people’s confidence in his leadership.

CROP Team Leader Geoffrey Chiyesu commended older citizens, including some aged over 100, for turning out to vote. He said their participation reflected the importance they attach to social protection initiatives, including cash transfer schemes and pension reforms.

Chiyesu said the organisation would continue to support President-Elect Hichilema’s development agenda and urged political leaders to respect the will of the people.

Meanwhile, CROP has called for the greater inclusion of older persons in national development, stressing that they possess valuable knowledge, experience and skills that can contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s economic growth.
