Resolute Party Rules Out Election Petition, Accepts Hichilema Victory

The Resolute Party has announced that it will not challenge the results of the August General Election in court, describing such a move as counterproductive.

Party President Dr Martin Phiri said the Resolute Party, a member of the Tonse Alliance, had accepted President Hakainde Hichilema's victory, in which he secured 60 percent of the vote, as a clear reflection of the will of the Zambian people.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Dr Phiri appealed to citizens to unite behind the President and to allow the UPND administration the space to govern and deliver on its promise of improving living standards across the country. He said the time had come to move beyond the campaign and focus on national development.

His remarks were echoed by the party's parliamentary candidate for Makeni Constituency, Kavumbu Hakachima, who lost his bid for the seat. Mr Hakachima urged fellow Zambians to accept the outcome of the election gracefully and to embrace peace, stressing that the country's stability must come before political interests.

The announcement adds the Resolute Party to a growing number of parties and candidates who have publicly accepted the election result and called for calm, in a show of unity.
