ECZ To Drop Results Around Midmorning

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will give an official update on the results received around mid-morning today.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the Commission was not yet in position to give a specific time when the first election results and that thhe public should expect an update today.

Kasaro spoke at the National Results Centre in Lusaka said the Commission would begin the sharing of results today as the counting of results continued.

He confirmed that results announced at polling stations were in the public domain but should not be confused for results that represent an entire constituency.

β€œThe Commission will not be announcing polling station results, because that is done at the polling station level,” Kasaro said.

He explained that the Commission would only begin announcing results after all results for a constituency had been received, verified and consolidated at the constituency level, after which the returning officer would announce the results.

He reported that an average of about six hours was required to complete the counting process at a polling station.
