600 Election Monitors Deployed Ahead of Election

More than 600 trained election monitors and polling agents have been deployed nationwide by the ZIKO LATHU Consortium, a coalition of civil society organisations.

ActionAid Country Director Faides Tembatemba says the monitors are trained to be impartial, independent and informed at polling stations, constituencies and results centres.

Speaking in Lusaka at the launch of the consortium’s Election Situation Room and Youth Election Command Centre, Ms Tembatembe said monitoring will cover all constituencies, with focus on areas with limited previous monitoring capacity.

NGOCC Executive Director Annie Anamela called for prompt action against violence against women during elections.

MISA National Director Austin Kayanda urged Zambians to vote in large numbers and make informed choices, while Panos Institute Southern Africa Executive Director Vusumuzi Sifile said the initiative highlights the importance of stakeholder collaboration in ensuring free and fair elections.
