SACCORD Backs ECZ on Ballot Markings

The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ ) is acting within the law on ballot markings ahead of Thursday’s general election.

SACCORD Executive Director Arthur Muyunda says claims that the ECZ has changed the rules are unfounded, as the provision has always been provided for in law.

Mr Muyunda says Section 60 of the amended Electoral Process Act of 2026 allows voters to mark their ballot in any manner within the box corresponding to their preferred candidate, including an X or a tick.

He has urged political parties and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the amended Act to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
