Stakeholders Applaud ECZ Over Ballot Arrival

The Tonse Alliance, UPND and NGOCC have commended the arrival of the first consignment of the ballot papers in the country, saying the process has been transparent and cleared any suspicions that Zambians had. 

Tonse Alliance Secretary General Dr Chris Zumani Zimba said the arrival guaranteed elections would take place. He added that they will continue to monitor necessary surveillance and inspection as the ballot papers move from the airport to the ECZ warehouse in Silverest. 

Dr Zimba said the ECZ “need to convince us to trust them, in the manner they are going to administer these elections.” 

UPND National Management Commitee member Mulambo Haimbe said it was important that every stakeholder was present to witness the arrival of the ballots. He said “ECZ has done a stellar job, a wonderful job to protect our democracy through processes such as these where every single stakeholder is represented.”

He added that the delay in the arrival of the ballot papers was explained by ECZ and mitigated by the fact that a bigger aircraft has been used, so more ballot papers have arrived. 

Other stakeholders including representatives from the Citizens First Party also expressed their satisfaction with the Commission.
