HH Unveils Major Development Plans in Southern Province

President Hakainde Hichilema addressed thousands of people yesterday in Pemba, Gwembe, Sinazongwe and Mapatizya, President Hichilema saying the country's continued development depends on peaceful and fair practice regardless of regional, ethnic or political differences.

In Pemba, the President highlighted what he described as key achievements of the UPND government since taking office in 2021, including the implementation of free education, debt restructuring and the expansion of the Constituency Development Fund to K40 million.

He also announced a district hospital, a police station in Muzoka, a skills training centre, road upgrades and expanded electricity, internet and agricultural infrastructure. The President further announced that volunteer nurses who attended the rally had been offered employment.

In Gwembe, President Hichilema pledged increased investment in fish cage farming and mining to create jobs, while announcing plans for a Level One Hospital, rehabilitation of the Bottom Road, additional boarding schools and upgraded skills training centres.

In Sinazongwe, President Hichilema pledged to revive Collum Coal Mine to create employment opportunities and announced plans to construct a 600-megawatt power station. He also promised more boarding schools to improve access to education.

Meanwhile, in Mapatizya, President Hichilema said that expired artisanal mining licences would be renewed to promote legal and safer mining operations. He also announced plans for livestock financing, improved road infrastructure and expanded education facilities.

Throughout the tour, President Hichilema rallied voters to back UPND candidates in every elective position in the August 13 election, saying a renewed mandate would allow his administration to create more opportunities and sustain the progress made over the past five years.
