President Takes Development Message to Lusaka's Rural Districts
President Hakainde Hichilema pledged fresh infrastructure and jobs across Lusaka Province on Sunday, while urging Zambians to reject political violence and protect the country's democratic gains ahead of the August 13 General Election.
Addressing thousands in Chilanga, the President announced that the district would receive a new district hospital, skills training centres, roads and improved drainage. He recalled that the Kalundu area was once a hub of political attacks on opposition supporters, telling residents that lawlessness had since been fixed and had no place in Zambia's democracy.
In Shantumbu, Kafue East Constituency, President Hichilema promised a boarding school, a modern market, additional Food Reserve Agency depots and improved access to clean water. He described the area as having the potential to grow into a major city and appealed to residents to back UPND candidates at every level rather than independents.
The President also confirmed plans for a dual carriageway from Lusaka to Kafue Bridge, saying the Road Development Agency had already been directed to ease traffic congestion, alongside a vehicle assembly plant under the Multi-Facility Economic Zone in Kafue.
Throughout the day he highlighted his administration's record, including free education now enshrined in law, reinstated meal allowances and restructured national debt. He reassured public service workers that their jobs were protected, and urged citizens to reflect on the country's progress since 2021 before casting their ballots.
