Cost of Living to Improve, Says Nalumango

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has said the cost of living will improve significantly if President Hakainde Hichilema is re-elected for a second term.

Speaking on Hot FM's Red Hot Breakfast programme, Nalumango acknowledged that many households continue to face economic hardship, but insisted the Government has taken decisive steps to tackle the factors driving prices higher.

She pointed to clear signs of recovery since the administration moved to restore economic stability through debt restructuring. Exports have risen, mining revenues are climbing, and industrial growth is gathering pace. Together, she argued, these gains are laying the foundation for lasting relief on the cost of living.

Nalumango also highlighted job creation as one of the Government's strongest achievements, saying the country has created more jobs across more sectors than at any point since independence. This, she said, reflects an economy that is once again expanding and drawing investment.

The Vice President went on to underline the importance of the country's foreign reserves, which she said have been used to cushion Zambians against unforeseen shocks. She cited the recent drought as a clear example, explaining that the reserves allowed the Government to provide emergency relief and prevent hunger-related deaths.

Looking ahead, Nalumango expressed confidence that continuity of leadership would allow these reforms to mature and deliver tangible benefits for ordinary Zambians. A second term, she said, would build on the stability already achieved and ensure the cost of living continues to ease.
