HH Urges Security Agencies to Prevent Acts of Political Violence

President Hichilema has directed security agencies to act decisively on recent incidents of political violence, expressing deep concern over the unrest. He strongly condemned the violence and ordered full investigations in Kaputa and Mazabuka to ensure those responsible face the full force of the law.

In a press release issued this evening, State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said the President believes "no grievance and no political ambition can ever justify violence, let alone the loss of life. Those who carry weapons to a political gathering have lost the argument."

Mr. Hamasaka added that the President wants this message to reach "every constituency and every compound", reinforcing that "the law in Zambia is blind to party colours. Whoever you are, if you perpetrate violence you will answer for it before the courts and you will answer alone. No party will shield you. You are on your own."

Additionally, Mr. Hamasaka reiterated that President Hichilema is determined to uphold Zambia as a beacon of peace and democracy, asserting that "no investor builds, no farmer prospers, no child learns in the shadow of the panga.”

His message is unequivocal: the nation will never return to violence. As the President puts it, "One Zambia, One Nation."

Looking ahead to the General Election on 13 August, Hamasaka said the President calls on every leader, candidate and supporter to choose peace.

He reinforced the President's call for Zambians to respect one another and preserve their democracy: "together we will protect the peace our forefathers won, and hand it on, whole and unbroken, to those who come after."
