ZCCM-IH Board Says Mining Growth Must Benefit Zambians During Luanshya Visit
The ZCCM-IH Board of Directors visited CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines yesterday and said Zambia's mining growth must create real opportunities for local businesses and workers.
The visit was part of the Board's Copperbelt investment tour. ZCCM-IH owns 20% of CNMC Luanshya. Board Chairperson Phesto Musonda led the directors, who met the mine's management team, headed by Chairman Jiang Lei. Together they went through the mine's FY2025 and first-half 2026 results, covering operations, finances, exploration, staffing, and health and safety.
The Board then toured the site. At Shaft 28, the water has been pumped out and work to clear the underground areas and build new infrastructure is under way. Directors also inspected the new mine site at Shaft 28, construction of the Mashiba Ramp, backfilling at the Muliashi Open Pit, and the mine's vent shafts and winders.
Mr Musonda said the benefits of new investment have to reach people beyond the mine. "Growth must have a real trickle-down effect," he said. "Our investments must create opportunities for Zambian businesses, develop local skills, create jobs and strengthen communities."
Chief Executive Officer Kakenenwa Muyangwa said the Board had seen real progress on projects that matter to the mine's long-term production. "Local content is central to that value proposition," he added. "A stronger Zambian supply chain and a skilled local workforce make our operations more resilient and more competitive over the long term."
The two sides agreed on follow-up actions, and the Board will check on progress in future meetings.
