Haimbe Dismisses Protest Claims as Zambia Builds New Partnerships at UNGA81

Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Mulambo Haimbe has dismissed social media claims of diaspora protests against Zambia at the United Nations in New York. He said the country was warmly received at the opening of UNGA81.

"There is no such thing as protests against Zambia," he said. "Let us not listen to the allegations on social media."

Hon. Haimbe is representing President Hakainde Hichilema at the opening of the General Debate. He said many Zambians living in the United States had welcomed the President's re-election in August and were optimistic about the country's direction.

He urged Zambians to put the election behind them and move forward together. "Those who voted for and those who voted against; we are now past the election, let us move forward," he said.

The week has also brought new partnerships. Hon. Haimbe signed a Joint Communique establishing diplomatic relations with Andorra, opening the way for cooperation in tourism, digital governance, financial services, education and climate action. Zambia also co-hosted, with Namibia, a high-level event marking two years of the Pact for the Future.

Health Minister Prof. Roma Chilengi attended the launch of the Accra Reset report on reforming global health governance. The report calls for international cooperation that strengthens countries' own priorities, an approach Zambia shares.

Hon. Haimbe will deliver Zambia's National Statement on Monday 28 September, calling for stronger multilateralism.
